We all have our own personal “soft spots,” or those groups or areas that really make us take another look at what is important to us and how we can help in our own community. For me, and for various personal reasons, I’m always looking for ways to help the elderly and children in our communities.
Foothills United Way has many agencies that touch one or both of these groups, making it easy for me to provide support. I support FHUW and some agencies directly through contributions, and I chair the workplace campaign in my company and have for several years running. As a member of the FHUW Foundation Board of Trustees, I’ve learned much about the great things that FHUW and our partner agencies do across the community. I’ve also volunteered on the Granting and Allocations Committees, which has given me a chance to visit some agencies; to see firsthand the great work that they do and how the needs are deep and ongoing. My time with FHUW has really opened my eyes to the true needs of the community and how the community depends on each and every one of us to contribute time, donations of goods or cash, and increase overall awareness of what happens where we live and work.
We’ve all been touched in some way by these latest economic concerns going on in the US and across the world, and while some of us may now have to worry about whether or not we can retire in 10 or 15 years, many people are now worrying whether they can pay their mortgage or feed their family. I think now is the best time to get more involved with FHUW and the partner agencies and contribute what we can and where we can….to show that Living United is really the best way to help our communities succeed and grow together!
