Felipe is a true example of a student who has accomplished his educational dream and now is reaping the benefits of his hard work. He is committed to making a difference in his life and the lives of others. He is currently working overseas and enjoying his international experience. None of this would have been possible without completing higher education.
Felipe was born to migrant workers and grew up in Longmont. His family moved to Casa de la Esperanza Family Housing when Felipe was eight years old. He participated in many programs held at the Casa de la Esperanza community center. As his family’s life became more stable they were able to move into their own house. Felipe found out about the PIE program through Casa de la Esperanza Learning Center’s Director, Carlota Loya-Hernandez. Ms. Loya-Hernandez advised him to apply for matching funds to pay for his tuition at Metropolitan State College of Denver where he graduated with a Marketing Degree.
Carlota Loya-Hernandez stated, “Our community is proud of Felipe, not only for who he is, but who he will become. He has given much to his community and is now a leader that will continue to make a positive impact on other youth and society. He will give back two-fold what was given to him in the form of opportunity and resources to allow him to prosper. His family and parents are so very overjoyed at his accomplishments.”
“The PIE program was of tremendous help to finish my degree. I was already paying previous student loans and the tuition at that time, so the help that the program provided was invaluable to my education,” said Felipe. “The program has not only helped me financially but also in terms of financial knowledge. The financial classes have been of great help to manage my finances better, and pay off my student loans more rapidly.”
Felipe likes to travel and went to Japan as a chaperone for local high school students through the Longmont Sister Cities Association. When he returned he finished his degree and is now teaching in South Korea. Felipe said about the PIE program: “I would highly recommend this program to any student or person looking to go to school, purchase a home or start a small business. It is basically FREE money and a FREE education all in one.”
The PIE program is pleased to serve individuals like Felipe who want to improve their lives through education.
