The Personal Investment Enterprise program is pleased to announce that it has received a second AFI (Assets for Independence) gr ant. The Office of Community Services has awarded 18 Assets for Independence (AFI) grants totaling more than $3.9 million to community-based organizations and government agencies under HHS’ Administration for Children and Families across the United States. Funded projects will provide low-income individuals and families with access to Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) as well as training on financial education.
As one of the 18 grantees, PIE has been awarded $89,000 to use over the next five years to match dollar for dollar with local funding. For each federal dollar that the program receives, a local dollar is required in matching funding.
Current local matching funders include:
1. Longmont CDBG has committed to providing $20,000 to PIE for 2012.
2. The City of Boulder, Division of Housing has dedicated $12,000, of which $6,000 will be matched with AFI funds for homeownership.
3. Community Trust of The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County has allocated $5,500 to the program.
4. Anschutz Family Foundation is also supporting the PIE program through $5,000 for 2012.
Additional local matching grants will continue to be added to these funders over the course of the coming months.
This grant will allow 43 new participants to save through an IDA for homeownership, education or business development. These new IDAs will be available starting mid-May.
