Being a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) for six years and needing to spend more time with her family, Jessica Alvarado had the idea to open her own business. The business would accomplish both freeing some time to devote to family and developing a line of medical uniforms. And her answer was: “Why not start one in Longmont!”
Jessica said of her new business, “Everybody begins with an idea.” Having the support of family and friends, she began researching suppliers and demand for this type of uniform. Then, a business name evolved “Unique Scrubs, LLC.” Jessica worked diligently to implement her business and participated in the PIE program. She completed the savings goal and training requirements. Now she has a sound business plan that allows her to stay on track with her business goals and objectives.
Unique Scrubs, LLC provides medical uniforms for people working at clinics, hospitals, and students in the medical field. The business provides options to pre-order. Clients can also check catalogues and pre-order with a 10% discount for students.

Asked if PIE Program was helpful for reaching her goals, Jessica responded, “100%. I was able to implement my business with cash resources and develop a well-structured business plan with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) business coach Jesse Esparza. I still continue checking my business plan to not forget what I am doing.”
Jessica continues working full-time as a CNA on weekends and runs the business Monday to Friday. “Working hard pays off.”, says Jessica, who also wants to be a role model for the Latino community. Jessica’s business dream is to succeed and be able to get her own front door shop space. She would also like to expand the business and create more jobs for the community, which would allow her to spend more time with family and provide job opportunities, as well.
