1) New participants can save more with the PIE program! Those entering into the program this Fall with new funding, may save $1,000 in their savings account and receive a match of $4,000.
- This will provide a total of $5,000 available for purchase toward education, business, or homeownership.
- Since 2001, the PIE program has not increased the amount that a participant is able to save and most IDA programs have a larger match amount. As PIE received a new federal grant this year, this is a great time to increase the saving amount.
2) Get your copy of our updated handbook! With the beginning of a new federal grant, PIE has an updated handbook to assist you as you save towards your asset purchase.
- If you are receiving federal matching funds download this handbook: Download Participant Handbook AFIA Program -2012 final
- If you are receiving non-federal match funds download this handbook: Download Participant Handbook - non-AFIA-2012 final
When in doubt, check with Nino for which handbook you should use.
3) New asset course for education participants! PIE is partnering with the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC)
- The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a TRIO program 100% federally funded through the Department of Education, Title IV Higher Education Act, serving the six county metropolitan areas since 1974. The services include educational information, planning and assistance in completing applications for admissions, financial aid and scholarships to low income/first generation individuals.
With the EOC, participants may:
1. Complete an on-line class: “Paying for College” at educationcents.org
2. Complete an education plan. Download IDA education plan PIE.
3. Meet with an Education Opportunity Center advisor to review their education plan prior to beginning to save in the PIE program.
That’s not all. You can also attend EOC workshops or meet with advisors for additional assistance in determining career goals, applying for college, or for scholarships.
Take advantage of meeting with an EOC advisor here. Download Steps for EOC course Download EOC Sign Up Form
We hope that these new features will be helpful to new participants and encourage you as you save for your future through the PIE program.
